The Annual College of Alameda ADAM (Apparel Design and Merchandising) Fashion Show.

The stage was set in the Grand Ballroom at the Hilton Oakland Airport.  With a Runway & a DJ, the tables were set for friends, family and fashion professionals.  A light lunch was provided. I even got a space at the front (with a VIP sign!).  Perfect for viewing the show and seeing the garments up close. 

It's always good to go support graduating fashion students. They are at a pivotal place in their budding careers, full of inspiration and unfettered talent.  Their skills are just emerging and the work is still raw. 

There were a few stand out student collections from this year's show.  Notably, Gloria Lee, who's collection was inspired by Mushrooms, showed us a unique way to translate inspiration.  You would never guess that mushrooms were her starting point.  But knowing about it in hindsight, gives depth to the thoughtful use of fabric, color and texture. Also, her construction and presentation we quite good.  This early student works is often difficult to execute and I was pretty impressed by the level Ms. Lee brought to her work.

Some other lovely pieces came from costumer, Tracey Walker.  She showed 3 vintage inspired looks in a muted purple and gold collection made from both knit & woven fabrics.  Her knits were beautifully beaded and embroidered in metallic beads and threads. 

Katie Andrews, Gwen Rice and Xanah Fonseca were additional favorites, each bringing a little something special to there work.  Congratulations to the Graduating Class of 2017 and their brilliant instructors, Derek Piazza & OJ Rountree!  Bravo!
