My Sewing (& Knitting) Plans for 2018

What are your Sewing Plans for the New Year?  I already have a long list of things I would like to accomplish with the knowledge that there probably won't be time for everything on my list.  In any regard, I'm very excited to get started.  Take a look below at some of the things in the works:

Miss Fisher Wardrobe Expansion

Since I'll be attending the Miss Fisher Convention in June (Portland, Oregon), I will need to plan and organize several outfits for each day over a 3 day period.  I'll try to mix and match and maybe have a color scheme per day.  I'll also have to make some coordinating hats. I was lucky enough to be gifted a gift certificate to BRITEX FABRICS which I was able to use during their sale, back in November.  I bought a lovely array of Navy Blue and Black Fabrics.  Additionally, I still have turquoise rayon crepe in my stash along with some coordinating vintage silk burgundy Chinese brocade.

I think my goal will be two-three new pairs of wide leg trousers, another shell, a camisole or two + two new blouses and a velvet cocoon jacket with removable fur collar.  Oh, and maybe a flouncy sweater coat as well.  I've got my work cut out for me.

2018 Art Deco Society Preservation Ball Gown

I still have the fabric and sketch from last year's 2nd choice.  Still kind of in love with it, so no hemming or hawing this time around.

Upcycle Conversion of a 1990's Coat to a Miss Fisher Inspired Fur-Collared Coat

My Mother-in-Law bequeathed me her beautiful cashmere winter white coat,  It's made from the softest fabric and feels like a dream on.  It has more of a 1990's feel, but I have plans on converting it into something reminiscent of the Winter White Wool Fur-Collared coat that Miss Phryne wears in the Miss Fisher Season Two episode - The Blood of Juana the Mad.

1930's Puff Sleeve Sweater

This is a project I started last year.  It's coming along, but taking FOREVER.  Not sure if it's the monotony of stocking stitch or just a lot of stitches, but I'm very close to starting the armhole shaping on the front side, having finished the back panel already.  Exciting Stuff.

Breton Striped Tee Shirts

I've already got quite a collection of Striped Tees in my closet, but some are becoming threadbare and it's time to make some new ones.  I would also like to use the opportunity to provide some instruction on how to create your own (Classes & maybe an online tutorial?) from scratch or from your favorite existing T-Shirt.  Keep your eyes open for more details coming soon.

Historical  (or Hysterical??? at this point) Costumes

I have two corset patterns - one Victorian and one 18th century.  I'll start with each of those, and plan to make a costume that will go with each of the underpinnings (you have to have those first).  The Victorian Costume has a bit more priority, since I would like to wear it to the Dicken's Faire in December.

Gatsby Summer Afternoon 2018

I think this year is maybe an all WHITE Gatsby year.  I have this photo of my grandmother from the late 20's or early 30's with the most lovely dress.  I've always wanted to reproduce it so maybe this is the year. I think Mena Lazar (@makethislook on Instagram) would be proud of me if I can pull it off.

There are actually a few more things on my list, if you can believe it - An Alabama Chainin hand sewn cardigan using Art Deco stencil and Colette Parfait Dress made from a myriad of different Japanese fabrics.  We shall see if I get to those, but I do have high hopes.

Wishing you all a great start to your New Year and Happy Sewing!

xoxo
