Vintage Style Knitted Lace Cardigan -

I fell in love with this style when I paged through the Fall 2014 issue of Vogue Knitting Magazine and stopped on page 44. I’m kind of a sucker for a well styled layout and this was no exception (you can see a bit of the magazine in a photo below). What I really thought, however, was that this sweater would be a great accompaniment to my several Colette Parfait Parfait Dresses (Pattern Review coming soon). And pictured here in this post, it pairs perfectly with this dress.

And after about 3 or 4 months of knitting, this sweater is finished. Well worth all the hard work and finishing to bring it to completion.

The lace pattern was not so easy to memorize, but I almost got there by the time I got to the sleeves. Ha! It was really fun to knit and much less concentration than the lace beret from a few posts back. This one, I’ll definitely be keeping! Will I make it again? Not sure, but it would be totally worth it in the right color.

Here is the back finished. I was able to knit it using not quite a whole skein, so that meant that I only had two ends to weave in.

I knit both sleeves at the same time. This method helps keep the sleeves the same length and the pattern the same right to left.

With all cardigans, I sew a length of grosgrain ribbon to the back side of the button panel and buttonhole panels. I make buttonholes on the ribbon before sewing it to the buttonhole side. This keeps it from staying or getting stretched out and wonky on the front edge.

One of my favorite details with this sweater are the little knitted leaves at the front neck. I think it looks just as good in the matching yarn as it does in the contrast yarn used in the magazine.

Until next time, Happy Knitting & Sewing,

Jennifer
