Meet Jake D. , one of our Fashion Design Students. His designs are pretty awesome, so we thought we would share some with you. It's fantastic that he is also exploring the art of draping fabric on the dress form, which was really a wonderful surprise to see when he sent over the photos. That skill and practice will come in handy when and if he studies pattern making (finger's crossed). I think it will be really fun for him. But first Sewing! In the meantime here is a little more about Jake in his own words:
How Old are you?
13 years old - nearly 14
What grade are you in?
8th grade at Lincoln Middle School - go Lions!
Where do you go to school?
When did you become interested in Fashion?
After watching the Cruella DeVille movie with Emma Stone. Her mad genius-ness and the avant garde-ness was so crazy different than what I'm used to wearing and seeing. The creativity and pazazz, the breaking of boundaries was so new. I kept thinking, 'whaaa? You can do that?'
I kept thinking, 'whaaa? You can do that?'
What is your favorite part of the design process?
The Concept. If I want to make a dress that's a triangle then I'd give it 3,000 tiny rough sketches of how it could be a dress. Logic does not apply. The process of the sketch - and not the final product - is where I lose myself.
What are your #fashiongoals and/or ambitions?
It could be fun designing a Spring Collection (or any season's collection) with the thing where they do on Insta(gram) where they say 'Prada and Denhardt present these fashion collections!'
Putting something out there...that people would notice...having a name in the business. That's an aspiration. I even have an idea for my logo!
Do you think you'll pursue a career in Fashion or is this just a hobby?
I want to pursue a career in the Arts, and that would include fashion. It would also include writing and art-ing on a canvas. I think fashion could be one of the many things I do that's in the category of 'jobs'
Thanks Jake! Really looking forward to seeing what you come up with next!
Until Next Time, Happy Fashion,
Xo, Jennifer
